We’re pleased to welcome Alistair Hay to Acuity Trading! He joins our data science team in Spain for a one-month placement.
Alistair recently completed a Master’s in Finance from HEC Lausanne (University of Lausanne, Switzerland), and arrives from Geneva to work closely with Acuity's Head of Data Science, Ariel Duarte López, Ph.D., on a cutting-edge research project that explores the intersection of natural language processing and financial markets.
Having developed a strong interest in financial data analysis, econometrics, and asset management during his studies, Alistair's focus will be on analysing the co-integration between Acuity’s topic models and equity price movements.
This approach enables Acuity to identify whether certain financial news topics consistently move in tandem with specific equities - and importantly, whether those topics are driving price action or reacting to it.
"During my time here, I hope to deepen my understanding of statistical methods applied to financial markets, particularly in time-series analysis and econometric techniques." Alistair enthuses. "I’m also keen to learn from the team’s expertise and contribute to research that generates new ideas using alternative data."
Alistair's research will add valuable depth to our understanding of market sentiment and further refine the predictive capabilities of our AI-powered data products.
